Be the best that you can be
At Barmston Village Primary School, the well-being of our children is the most important aspect of everyday life within the school. We offer various support to children in need of well-being support. Please click on the link below to find out more information about some of the support we provide in school.
At Barmston Village Primary School we are aware that some of our pupils are young carers – children under 18 who are caring unpaid for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. Young carers can be vulnerable and be a disadvantaged group who experience difficulties in their education as a result of their caring role.
The Young Carers in Schools programme is an exciting England-wide national initiative which equips schools to be awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold for their effective practice with young carers. This initiative is funded by The Queen's Trust and Big Lottery Fund. We have a whole school commitment in identifying and supporting young carers and currently in the process of applying for the Bronze level. Mrs Kelly is the Senior Leadership Team Lead and Link Governor. Mrs Oxley is the Operational Lead who conducts peer support meetings each half term to discuss with children any support they need.
We have a dedicated notice board situated in the office corridor with information to read supporting our young carers. If you would like more information please follow the link https://carers.org/young-carers-schools.
